Echo: Revolutionising NHS Prescriptions

Echo: Revolutionising NHS Prescriptions

Like millions in the UK I rely on repeat prescriptions to keep me healthy. The NHS is marvellous but the repeat prescription service has always felt a little archaic. Little slips of green paper popped in a box or handed to your pharmacist and then a 24-48 hour waiting period before you can actually get ahold of the medication you need. The NHS Electronic Prescription Service launched in 2014 did seek to solve much of this. If both your GP and pharmacy supported it you could use their online service to order repeat prescriptions and collect them at your leisure.…

Setapp: Game Changing App Distribution

Setapp: Game Changing App Distribution

Distribution for indie developers on the Mac has been a sore point for a number of years now. The Mac App Store is just completely broken and discovery of apps outside of a centralised store is difficult and it takes a lot of effort to shine in the rough. Setapp aims to change the game by offering dozens of Mac apps, instantly available for a single monthly subscription of $9.99. It's the brainchild of MacPaw, the software house responsible for fantastic apps like CleanMyMac and Gemini. What's going on with Fetch?

Last Wednesday evening we received a notification from Apple that Fetch had been removed from the App Store. They cited the following rule and sent some screenshots accompanying the notice of the transfers screen. 22.4 Your app falls into a category of apps that are often used for illegal file sharing, which does not comply with the App Store Review Guidelines. A few months ago I switched from Chrome to Safari as my main browser. I enjoy using Safari to Chrome in almost every way but there was one feature of Chrome that I missed. There's an option you can enable in Chrome that will force you to hold CMD + Q to quite the app. As some who uses CMD + W to quit windows or tabs frequently, I often found myself accidentally quitting Safari. Solutions There are of course a number of solutions to the problem. Stop being such a sausage-fingered idiot and learn the difference between the Q and W…

Fetch 2

Fetch 2

Last year I started working on my first iOS app as a way to learn Swift. What I built turned out to be a fairly popular client for Put.io. With the release of the Apple TV, porting the app was a no brainer and with it came additional features — chiefly the matching of posters and metadata. After a couple of updates my attention moved back to the iPhone and iPad in November, and for the last 5 months I've been working on a huge update… What's new? There's a lot of new stuff in Fetch 2 — from minor tweaks…
